Board Member Commitment and Expectations

The Mission of the Palmer Arts Council is to nurture, encourage, sponsor, and support the free expression of ideas in our community through the arts.

Our Board Members are expected to participate in the following ways:

  • Attendance: Board members are expected to attend meetings regularly.

  • Length of Term: Board members serve three-year terms, which may be repeated indefinitely.

  • Fundraising: Board members are expected to participate in fundraising and donor development. There are many ways this can be accomplished, both behind the scenes and publicly.

  • Time Commitment: The average time commitment required of board members is approximately three to seven hours monthly, including board meetings. This will vary according to the individual’s chosen areas of responsibility and the season. Monthly board meetings are typically no longer than one and a half hours and occur the same day and time each month. The board does not meet in June and December.

  • Committees: All board members must participate in at least one of the organization’s committees, with options ranging from planning events to managing finances.

  • Leadership: The board is responsible for selecting, supporting, and evaluating the PAC Director. Board members strive to provide strategic guidance to the organization and the staff. They actively work to ensure continuous board improvement.
